Turnaround & Revamp Services

Planning and execution of refinery turnarounds.

The success of a turnaround is decided long before the actual plant shutdown. DWE combines engineering, in-house manufacturing, logistics and on-site execution into an integrated approach that reduces interfaces and minimizes risks. The basis is more than 130 successfully completed turnaround and revamp projects on critical refinery units.

Scope of services

Engineering and feasibility studies
Revamp and modernization concepts
Shutdown planning and project management
Manufacturing of replacement components and large-scale equipment
Heavy-transport and logistics solutions
Assembly and installation on site
Turnaround and revamp execution
Support during commissioning and restart

Execution expertise

Adherence to the schedule is decisive in every turnaround. DWE plans the interfaces between existing and new equipment already during the engineering and manufacturing phase. Spool pieces, connection areas and replacement units are manufactured on a project-specific basis in order to reduce assembly times and ensure the highest degree of dimensional fit.

At the same time, DWE coordinates the interfaces with partner companies and subcontractors on site. The combination of engineering knowhow, manufacturing expertise and site experience enables the efficient implementation of even complex replacement and modernization projects.

Manufacturer-independent – and, as an OEM, additionally strong

Turnarounds and revamps are carried out independently of the original manufacturer and licensor. DWE also manufactures, supplies and replaces components that were originally built by other manufacturers or according to the specifications of various licensors – including engineering, logistics and on-site assembly.

For plant components from its own manufacturing, the role of the OEM is added. As a result, the complete design and manufacturing knowledge, the material and welding history and original drawings and documentation are available.

This reduces the effort for as-built assessments and creates the basis for efficient modernizations and replacement measures.

Long-term plant development

Refinery plants are often operated over several decades. DWE therefore supports operators not only with individual turnarounds, but also with long-term revamp and modernization strategies and with the implementation of new safety and HSE requirements. The goal is the economical and safe further development of existing plants over their entire life cycle.

Manufacturing, delivery and installation of a new reactor top section for the Mineraloelraffinerie Oberrhein. The reactor had a diameter of 9 m, a length of 15 m and a weight of around 240 t. The entire turnaround measure was implemented within the planned shutdown window of 38 days.
DWE manufactures the replacement components in its own workshop – in the same sizes and materials as the original equipment.
